Das Werk stellt den H\u00f6hepunkt des fruchtbaren wissenschaftlichen und humanistischen Schaffens der Autoren dar. Pellegrino, ein Arzt, war damals 77 Jahre alt, w\u00e4hrend der j\u00fcngere Thomasma, ein Philosoph, 58 Jahre alt war. Beide waren Professoren an der Georgetown University in Washington DC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Das Buch ist etwas mehr als 300 Seiten lang. Die ersten 50 Seiten enthalten die au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnliche Analyse von Dr. Manuel de Santiago, \u00dcbersetzer des Werks und Kenner von Pellegrinos Leben und Werk wie kaum ein anderer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In der Einleitung des Originaltextes weisen die Autoren darauf hin, dass es sich bei dem Buch um eine Zusammenstellung von Artikeln aus den vergangenen Jahren handelt, von denen einige nur wenig Verbreitung gefunden haben. Das Ziel des Buches ist es, eine Sammlung von Werken unter einem gemeinsamen Thema zusammenzufassen, n\u00e4mlich wie die nat\u00fcrliche Vernunft und der Glaube an die Medizin \u00fcbereinstimmen sollten. Ziel ist es, eine neue, wirklich ethische Lehre der Medizin zu formulieren, die sich auf die Moral des \u00e4rztlichen Handelns st\u00fctzt. In noch nie dagewesener Weise wird der Arztberuf von den Autoren als ein christlich-moralisches Unternehmen betrachtet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De Santiago erkennt mehrere Etappen in Pellegrinos Leben, die von einer weltlichen Periode bis hin zu einem letzten Abschnitt mit einer starken religi\u00f6sen Dimension reichen. Dazwischen lag eine wissenschaftliche Periode, die mit seiner Arbeit als Internist verbunden war, eine Lehrperiode als Universit\u00e4tsprofessor und eine humanistische Periode, in der die Ber\u00fccksichtigung menschlicher Werte in der medizinischen Praxis im Mittelpunkt stand. Von diesem Zeitpunkt an machte sich Pellegrino an die Rekonstruktion der medizinischen Ethik und st\u00fctzte sich dabei auf die Tugenden, die damals von gro\u00dfen zeitgen\u00f6ssischen Philosophen wie Alasdair MacIntyre und Elizabeth Anscombe, die beide zum Katholizismus konvertiert waren, wiederbelebt wurden. Angesichts des Aufkommens des Prinzipalismus und der Bioethik von Beauchamp und Childress betonte Pellegrino die Wohlt\u00e4tigkeit, das Streben nach dem Wohl des Patienten, als wichtigste Grundlage der Moral in der medizinischen Praxis.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"omnes-block-ficha-horizontal\">\n\t<div class=\"clearfix\">\n\t\t<div class=\"left\">\n\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Sanacion-y-vocacion.jpeg\" \/>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"right\">\n\t\t\t<h2>Heilung und Berufung. Ausl\u00f6ser war ein von der Georgetown University veranstaltetes Symposium \u00fcber Philosophie und Medizin. Von diesem Moment an gestaltete Pellegrino die medizinische Moral auf der Grundlage der Tugend der N\u00e4chstenliebe, die sich in Mitgef\u00fchl f\u00fcr den Patienten verwandelt. Mitgef\u00fchl ist viel mehr als Mitleid oder Sympathie, es bedeutet, mit den Kranken zu f\u00fchlen und zu leiden und sie in ihrer menschlichen Schw\u00e4che zu begleiten. Dennoch muss die Achtung des Gewissens des Arztes Vorrang vor bestimmten autonomen W\u00fcnschen des Patienten haben.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eine auf Tugend gegr\u00fcndete und durch die N\u00e4chstenliebe geregelte \u00e4rztliche Ethik ist f\u00fcr Pellegrino eine Ethik der Agape, die \u00fcber die Grunds\u00e4tze, Regeln und Pflichten der \u00c4rzte hinausgeht, nicht um sie zu \u00fcbernehmen oder zu leugnen, sondern um sie zu vervollkommnen. Auf diese Weise wird die \u00e4rztliche T\u00e4tigkeit zu einem Dienst am N\u00e4chsten, zu einer besonderen Mission - einer Berufung -, zu der Gott den Arzt berufen hat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pellegrino wurde eingeladen, Mitglied der P\u00e4pstlichen Akademie f\u00fcr das Leben zu werden, die 1998 von Johannes Paul II. gegr\u00fcndet wurde. Sein Denken identifizierte sich mit dem christlichen Personalismus des Papstes.
