A few meters away is the grotto of St. Joseph, the place where the angel spoke in a dream to St. Joseph to ask him to flee to Egypt, \"for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/en\/news\/the-pope-asks-us-not-to-be-behave-like-herods\/\">Herod<\/a> is going to look for the Child to kill him\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Church venerates these innocents as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaticannews.va\/es\/santos\/12\/28\/ss--inocentes--martires.html\">martyrs<\/a> and celebrates them close to Christmas. At the wish of Pius V the celebration was elevated to a feast. Some have doubted the veracity of the account of St. Matthew, but the Second Vatican Council in its Dogmatic Constitution <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/archive\/hist_councils\/ii_vatican_council\/documents\/vat-ii_const_19651118_dei-verbum_sp.html\">Dei Verbum<\/a> reaffirmed the character <a href=\"https:\/\/es.catholic.net\/op\/articulos\/60694\/ocurri-realmente-la-matanza-de-los-santos-inocentes.html#modal\">historical<\/a> of the Gospels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Benedict XVI, in 'Jesus of Nazareth', points out that \"it is true that we know nothing about this fact from non-biblical sources, but taking into account so many cruelties committed by Herod, this does not prove that the crime did not take place\". The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaticannews.va\/es\/papa\/news\/2023-12\/papa-santos-inocentes-pontifex-urbi-et-orbi-ninos-guerra.html\">Pope Francis\u2019<\/a> deplored the \"slaughter of innocents in the world: in the womb, on the roads of the desperate in search of hope, in the lives of so many children whose childhoods are devastated by war\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Los frailes franciscanos de la Custodia de Tierra Santa suelen conmemorar este episodio en la gruta de los Santos Inocentes, unida a trav\u00e9s de un pasadizo a la de la Natividad en Bel\u00e9n.
