{"id":54961,"date":"2025-11-09T17:20:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-09T15:20:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/?p=54961"},"modified":"2025-11-12T03:02:24","modified_gmt":"2025-11-12T01:02:24","slug":"the-pope-working-to-keep-the-church-on-solid-ground","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/en\/actualidad\/el-papa-trabajar-para-mantener-la-iglesia-sobre-bases-solidas\/","title":{"rendered":"Pope: \u201cWork with patience to keep the Church on solid foundations\u201d.\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">- Cindy Wooden, Rome (CNS)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The work under construction is \u201ca beautiful image that speaks of activity, creativity and dedication, as well as hard work.\u201d \u201cAnd sometimes, of complex problems to be solved,\u201d the Pope said at the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome this Nov. 9, the feast of the dedication of the basilica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The basilica is the cathedral of the Pope as bishop of Rome, and is known as \u201cthe mother of all churches\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Standing on the \u201ccathedra\u201d or episcopal chair, Pope Leo preached about the basilica as \u201ca sign of the living church, built with chosen and precious stones on Christ Jesus, the cornerstone.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>God chooses \u201cthe dirty hands of men\u201d (Benedict XVI)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also spoke about the feast day when he returned to the Vatican for the Angelus prayer at noon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are Christ's church, his body, his members called to spread his Gospel of mercy, consolation and peace throughout the world, through that spiritual worship which must shine forth above all else in our witness of life,\u201d he told those gathered to pray with him in St. Peter's Square.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cToo often, the weaknesses and errors of Christians, along with many clich\u00e9s and prejudices, prevent us from understanding the richness of the mystery of the Church,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the holiness of the Church \u201cdoes not depend on our merits, but on \u201cthe gift of the Lord, never revoked\u201d, who continues to choose \u201cwith paradoxical love, the dirty hands of men as the vessel of his presence\u201d. (CNS Photo\/Vatican Media)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Excavating for solid foundations<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/leo-xiv\/es\/homilies\/2025\/documents\/20251109-dedicazione-basilica-lateranense.html\">homily<\/a> In the basilica, Pope Leo asked the faithful to reflect on the foundations of the church in which they found themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf the builders had not dug deep enough to find a solid foundation on which to build the rest, the whole building would have collapsed long ago, or would be at risk of collapse at any time,\u201d he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFortunately, however, those who came before us laid solid foundations for our cathedral, digging deep with great effort before erecting the walls that house us, and this gives us much more peace of mind.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Catholics must also first deepen their inner self.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As members and collaborators of the Church, he said, Catholics today also \u201cmust first go deep within and around themselves before they can build impressive structures. We must remove any unstable material that prevents us from reaching the solid rock of Christ.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Church and her members must constantly return to Christ and his Gospel, the Pope said. \u201cOtherwise, we run the risk of overloading a building with heavy structures whose foundations are too weak to support it.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Building Christ's church is a work that requires a lot of time, effort and patience, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>United with Christ, we are \u201cliving stones\u201d for the building of his Church&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Part of that work, the Pope said, is to be humble enough to allow God to work in each member, the \u201cliving stones\u201d that make up the Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen Jesus calls us to participate in God's great plan, he transforms us by masterfully molding us according to his plans of salvation,\u201d said Pope Leo XIV. \u201cThis involves a difficult path, but we must not be discouraged. On the contrary, we must persevere with confidence in our efforts to grow together.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pope Leo XIV ended his homily by making a special request to the community that celebrates Mass there regularly, but also to all churches and parishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>On the care of the liturgy at Masses<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe care of the liturgy, especially here in the See of Peter, must be such that it serves as an example for all the people of God,\u201d he noted. \u201cIt must comply with established norms, be attentive to the different sensibilities of the participants and follow the principle of wise inculturation.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He asked that the Masses \u201cremain faithful to the solemn sobriety typical of the Roman tradition, which can do so much good for the souls of those who actively participate in it\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Prayer for the Philippines and peace building<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the Marian prayer of the Angelus, Leo XIV expressed his \u201ccloseness to the people of the Philippines affected by a violent typhoon; I pray for the deceased and their families, for the wounded and the displaced\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also expressed his \u201cdeep appreciation for all those who, at all levels, are committed to building peace in the various war-torn regions\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In recent days, \u201cwe have prayed for the dead and, among them, unfortunately there are many who have died in the fighting and shelling, even though they are civilians, children, the elderly and the sick. If we really want to honor their memory, let there be a cease-fire and let all efforts be put into negotiations,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u2013 Cindy
