{"id":62204,"date":"2026-06-19T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-19T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/?p=62204"},"modified":"2026-06-09T17:44:13","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T15:44:13","slug":"15-patron-saints-and-intercessors-for-unusual-causes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/en\/foco\/15-santos-patronos-e-intercesores-para-causas-extranas\/","title":{"rendered":"15 Patron Saints and Intercessors for Unusual or Diverse Causes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We could talk about the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, or the many saints and martyrs to whom Christians turn in prayer. But on this occasion, we\u2019ll focus on some patron saints and intercessors who are invoked on certain occasions\u2014and who might be called \u201cunusual\u201d or \u201cless well-known\u201d\u2014because they are invoked for a wide variety of reasons, some of which may seem unusual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The common people have expressed these requests to the saints in a few phrases, asking them to help when things get tough or when there is a real need.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, remembering to <a href=\"https:\/\/expresiones.info\/acordarse-de-santa-barbara-cuando-truena\/\">Santa B\u00e1rbara When It Thunders<\/a>, Blessed Saint Anthony, help me find what I have lost. Saint Rita, advocate for the impossible, pray for us. By Saint Blaise, you\u2019ll see the stork. By Saint Andrew, snow at your feet. Let nothing trouble you, let nothing frighten you (to attain peace, from Saint Teresa of Jesus), until Saint Anthony, it\u2019s Easter, and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Saints Rita, Barbara, Bibiana, and Clare of Assisi<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Saint Rita of Cascia, patron saint of impossible causes<\/strong>, whose feast day is celebrated on May 22. She was born in 1381, lost her husband (who was murdered) and her children, forgave them, and was admitted to the Augustinian convent of St. Mary Magdalene in Cascia. She asked the Lord to allow her to share in His Passion, and she bore the stigmata for 15 years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She is called the saint of roses because, while bedridden before her death, she asked a cousin to bring her two figs and a rose from the garden of her parents\u2019 home. It was January. The woman thought she was delirious. However, to her astonishment, she found the figs and the rose, and brought them to Casia. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/en\/focus\/saint-rita-of-cassia-saint-of-impossible-cases\/\">Saint Rita<\/a> He died in 1447.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Saint Barbara, patron saint against storms, thunder, and lightning.<\/strong> This virgin martyr was born in the 3rd century in Nicomedia (Asia Minor, present-day Turkey). Her father was a tyrant named Dioscorus, who imprisoned his daughter when she converted to Christianity. He then had her executed. After killing his daughter, he died when he was struck by lightning. Saint Barbara is the patron saint of artillerymen in Spain and Europe, as well as of professions related to explosives and fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Saint Bibiana, patron saint of epilepsy and headaches.<\/strong> She lived in the second half of the 4th century. She was arrested and martyred along with her sister Demetria, who is also a saint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"683\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/SanJosedeCupertinoOK-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-62205\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/SanJosedeCupertinoOK-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/SanJosedeCupertinoOK-467x700.jpg 467w, https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/SanJosedeCupertinoOK-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/SanJosedeCupertinoOK-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/SanJosedeCupertinoOK-8x12.jpg 8w, https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/SanJosedeCupertinoOK-600x900.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/SanJosedeCupertinoOK.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">St. Joseph of Cupertino rises into view from the Basilica of Loreto (Ludovico Mazzanti, Wikimedia Commons).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Saint Joseph of Cupertino<\/strong>, <strong>pattern of airline passengers and pilots<\/strong>, and students with difficulties. He had the <a href=\"https:\/\/desdelafe.mx\/noticias\/sabias-que\/6-santos-patronos-de-las-causas-raras\/\">gift of levitation<\/a>, and he is depicted flying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Saint Clare of Assisi<\/strong>, patron saint of good weather, people pray that <strong>Let's hope it doesn't rain on the wedding day<\/strong>, among other reasons. In 1958, Pope Pius XII declared her the patron saint of television and telecommunications. Saint Clare of Assisi was the founder, along with <a href=\"https:\/\/desdelafe.mx\/noticias\/sabias-que\/6-santos-patronos-de-las-causas-raras\/\">St. Francis of Assisi<\/a>, of the Order of St. Clare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Saint Magnus of F\u00fcssen<\/strong>, <strong>insect repellent<\/strong> and other \u2018harmful\u2019 animals, and caterpillars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>San Sebastian<\/strong>, <strong>patron saint of archers and protector against poisoned arrows<\/strong>. The holy martyrs Sebastian, born in Milan, and Fabian were imprisoned during the persecutions of Christians under Diocletian and Decius. Saint Sebastian helped Christians in prison. He survived being shot with arrows but died after being beaten. Saint Fabian served as pope for 14 years. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Santos Drog\u00f3n, Friard, Crist\u00f3bal, Antonio Abad\u2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Saint Drog\u00f3n<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/grupoanimal.mx\/noticias\/los-santos-patronos-las-causas-extranas\">Patron Saint of the Ugly<\/a>, as they say, and the midwives.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Saint Joseph of Arimathea<\/strong>. <strong>Patron saint of mourners and funeral homes.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The evangelist Saint John recounts that Joseph of Arimathea, a disciple of Jesus\u2014though secretly, for fear of the Jews\u2014asked Pilate to allow him to take Jesus\u2019 body, and Pilate granted his request. So he came and took the body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Together with Nicodemus, they took Jesus' body and wrapped it in linen cloths with spices, according to the Jewish burial custom. At the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had ever been laid to rest. There they laid Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Saint Friard.<\/strong> <strong>A Pattern to Overcome Fear of Wasps<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>St. Thomas Aquinas<\/strong>. St. Paul VI called him \u201ca light for the Church and the whole world.\u201d St. John Paul II called him \u201ca master of thought.\u201d Benedict XVI highlighted his work in fostering \u201charmony between faith and reason,\u201d and Pope Francis encouraged us to place ourselves \u201cin his school\u201d as he launched three years of celebrations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Saint Simeon \u201cSalus\u201d<\/strong>, the madman. Patron saint of puppeteers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>San Juli\u00e1n<\/strong>.
