{"id":62711,"date":"2026-06-24T12:25:15","date_gmt":"2026-06-24T10:25:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/?p=62711"},"modified":"2026-06-24T12:25:16","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T10:25:16","slug":"josetxo-vera-steps-down-from-the-spanish-episcopal-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/en\/actualidad\/josetxo-vera-deja-cargo-conferencia-episcopal-espana\/","title":{"rendered":"Josetxo Vera, Director of Communications for the Spanish Episcopal Conference, is stepping down from his position"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Josetxo Vera, who has served as Director of Communications for the Spanish Episcopal Conference for nearly twelve years, has announced that he will step down from his position effective September 1, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The news comes at the end of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conferenciaepiscopal.es\/reunion-comision-permanente-junio-2026\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.conferenciaepiscopal.es\/reunion-comision-permanente-junio-2026\/\">press conference<\/a>, held on the occasion of the meeting of the Permanent Commission of Spanish Bishops, who gathered on June 22 and 23 to assess the work of the Spanish Church following the apostolic visit of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/en\/news\/free-ebook-leon-xiv-in-spain\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"62431\">Leo XIV<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In announcing his departure, Josetxo describes his years on the job as \u201ca truly exciting time.\u201d He also admits that he requested to step down last year, but that his resignation could not take effect until 2026. However, he is grateful that the Pope\u2019s trip was his last major assignment, as it was \u201ca wonderful experience\u201d that represents \u201cthe best thing that can happen to a journalist.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Thanks and good work<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, Josetxo thanks the bishops for \u201ctheir respect and trust\u201d over the past 12 years. He extends his thanks to the journalists who cover religious news and attend the press conferences organized by the Episcopal Conference, as well as to the team that \u201chas made all the successes possible.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am responsible for everything that has gone wrong and for all the mistakes,\u201d Vera says. However, the secretary general of the Episcopal Conference, Francisco C\u00e9sar Garc\u00eda Mag\u00e1n, has thanked the former director of communications for his \u201cgenerous, effective, and loyal work.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although he has stepped down from his position, Josetxo Vera remains in his role as secretary of the Episcopal Commission for the Media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to the resignation of the Director of Communications, the press conference addressed the work of the Permanent Commission, which focused on evaluating the Pope\u2019s apostolic visit to Spain, the tenth anniversary of \u201cAmoris Laetitia,\u201d the presentation of the report on hate crimes in the country, and the work being carried out by the synodal assemblies.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Josetxo Vera, quien ha sido el Director de Comunicaci\u00f3n de la Conferencia Episcopal Espa\u00f1ola durante casi doce a\u00f1os, anuncia que deja el cargo a partir del 1 de septiembre de 2026.
