{"id":62816,"date":"2026-06-29T13:56:07","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T11:56:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/?p=62816"},"modified":"2026-06-29T15:41:32","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T13:41:32","slug":"leo-xiv-the-christian-presence-is-not-domination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/en\/actualidad\/leon-xiv-la-presencia-cristiana-no-es-dominacion\/","title":{"rendered":"Leo XIV: The Christian presence is not about domination but about service and unity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An hour after the conclusion of Holy Mass on the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Pope Leo XIV led the Angelus prayer in St. Peter\u2019s Square and spoke once again about unity and communion, guided by these \u201cpillars of the Church.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\"This feast commemorates the original bond that unites the Church of Rome with all the other Churches of the world in communion of faith and charity,\" the Holy Father began by saying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt draws us into the mission of Peter and Paul\u2014that is, into the mission of Jesus himself. God trusts us\u2014sinners forgiven by him, imperfect as we are\u2014so that his grace may shine in our lives and his power, which transforms evil into good, may be revealed.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Thanks to the blood they shed, the Gospel has taken root in Rome<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The testimony of these two apostles is almost a hallmark of the New Testament, as he emphasized in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/leo-xiv\/it\/angelus\/2026\/documents\/20260629-angelus.html\">Angelus<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Indeed, \u201cthe blood they shed in this city reveals the magnitude of God\u2019s love that the Lord Jesus has given us. Yes, it is through his word and his martyrdom that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/en\/news\/special-city-council-meeting-to-mark-the-inauguration\/\">Gospel of Christ<\/a>, \u201d, so to speak, has taken root in Rome.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, too, the Lord\u2014who died and rose again out of love\u2014makes himself present in his witnesses, reaching the centers and the peripheries, the capitals and the most remote regions, through the voices, faces, and courageous decisions of those who responded to his invitation: \u201cFollow me!!\u201d the Pontiff continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Christian Presence Throughout History<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The patron saints of the Church of Rome, Saint Peter and Saint Paul, experienced \u201cthe anguish of communion; they knew it, served it, and proclaimed it as a sacrament of divine life.\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTheir witness has played a decisive role in ensuring that the Christian presence in history is not oriented toward domination, but toward service, unity, and reconciliation.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cAvoid anything that erodes or damages fellowship\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In closing, before the Angelus prayer, the Holy Father prayed \u201cthat the Lord may grant us, through the intercession of Saints Peter and Paul, to appreciate ever more deeply the catholicity of the Church, to recognize its value in fostering fraternal encounter among individuals and peoples, to avoid whatever erodes or harms communion, and to persevere on the ecumenical path and in attentive and frank dialogue with all.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He prayed before thousands of faithful and pilgrims that Mary, Queen of the Apostles, would always protect the People of God, in Rome and throughout the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After reciting the Marian prayer, the Pope addressed the people of Rome in particular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>To the people of Rome and to those who live in the city<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\"On the feast day of our patron saints, I extend my best wishes to the people of Rome and to all who live in this city,\" he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI offer a special thought, accompanied by prayer, to the sick, the lonely, and those in prison. I thank the parish priests and all the priests and religious men and women who work in Rome, because through their presence and daily service they keep their great Christian spirit alive.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le\u00f3n XIV also welcomed \u201ctwo brotherhoods: the Spanish Brotherhood of Our Lady of Carmen of the Camino de Zamora and the Brotherhood of the Dying, from Artena.\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, he greeted \u201cthe homeless people who are in St. Peter\u2019s Square today distributing *L\u2019Osservatore di strada*, a supplement to *L\u2019Osservatore Romano*.
