The 2026 World Cup has been full of media headlines: racism, refereeing controversies, legends retiring, and faith—a great deal of faith. Faith not only that the best team would lift the trophy, but also faith in God, expressed more or less directly by various people.

Luis de la Fuente, for example, has had no trouble at all reaffirming his commitment to his Christian life. Ferrán Torres, the new hero of Spanish soccer, also wanted to declare to the whole world that his strength comes from God. But during the halftime show at the final (in true American style), Justin Bieber took the stage to sing a song that was a curious choice.

The Canadian artist’s repertoire is extensive. It includes songs known around the world, some of which are very upbeat—perfect for livening up the halftime show at a sports event. But Justin Bieber opted for one of his most intimate songs: “Everything Hallelujah".

The song is nothing more than a thank-you to God for everything, from the new day to his wife and son. Someone skimming the lyrics might think they’re a bit “simplistic,” but Justin Bieber isn’t the kind of guy who gives thanks for anything. His life, spent mostly in the spotlight, hasn’t been easy. He’s gone through crises, breakups, and low points under the gaze of the entire world—which is not a compassionate judge.

Years after going through those struggles, Justin Bieber releases «Everything Hallelujah,» a song that reflects a shift in mindset: everything in life is a reason to be grateful, because God’s gifts are found in every aspect of life. Even brushing your teeth, as the song reminds us, is a moment to give thanks.

And there was Justin Bieber, right in the heart of New York City during one of the most-watched sporting events of the year, singing to give thanks to God. With a guitar and performing live, just like in his early days.

And so the 2026 World Cup comes to a close. A World Cup that showcased great faith in many different ways but lacked human decency, leaving us with memories of much more than just the goals.

To express gratitude
