Thousands of the faithful participate to pray, accompany the Virgin, and fulfill their vows.

9. World Youth Day in Kraków, Poland (2016)

The closing ceremony of World Youth Day in Krakow in 2016 drew a crowd of between 2.5 and 3 million people, according to various estimates that have been released.

The event took place in the homeland of St. John Paul II and during the Year of Mercy. The gathering brought together young people from nearly every corner of the world and culminated at Campus Misericordiae with Pope Francis.

10. Youth Pilgrimage to Luján, Argentina (2013)

The Youth Pilgrimage on Foot to Luján brought together about 2.5 million people in 2013.

The pilgrims walked about 60–70 kilometers from Buenos Aires to the Basilica of Our Lady of Luján, the patron saint of Argentina. This figure represents the cumulative number of people who made the journey and arrived at the shrine in stages.

The Philippines, the star of the huge crowds

The Philippines stands out particularly in this ranking: three of the ten events took place in that Asian country, while another was a Filipino celebration held in Cebu. Pope Francis’ Mass in Manila, the 1995 World Youth Day, and the 2026 Black Nazarene procession demonstrate the extraordinary ability of Filipino Catholic piety to draw large crowds.

Mexico, for its part, ranks highest on the list with Guadalupe. Venezuela and Argentina round out the Latin American representation with the processions of the Divina Pastora and the pilgrimage to Luján.

En tiempos de Jesucristo, la fe reunía multitudes en torno a sus palabras.
