{"id":64417,"date":"2026-09-17T06:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-09-17T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/?p=64417"},"modified":"2026-09-11T12:49:20","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T10:49:20","slug":"readings-for-the-25th-sunday-in-ordinary-time-a","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/en\/recursos\/lecturas-del-domingo\/lecturas-del-domingo-xxv-del-tiempo-ordinario-a\/","title":{"rendered":"Spiritual Unemployment: \u201cGo, you also, to my vineyard.\u201d  The 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time (A)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In today\u2019s Gospel, Jesus presents the Kingdom of God through the image of work. The parable of the workers in the vineyard draws our attention to three realities: God\u2019s call, the nature of our work, and the reward He promises. However, each of these is revealed in a way that is very different from our human expectations. Through the prophet Isaiah, the Lord declares: \u201c<em>As far as the heavens are from the earth, so far are my ways from your ways, and my plans from your plans<\/em>\u201d. God\u2019s way of thinking is not simply different from ours; it is infinitely wiser and more full of love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Gospel reveals to us, above all, that God wants everyone to work in his vineyard. There is no room for spiritual unemployment. The owner of the vineyard repeatedly goes out in search of workers: at dawn, mid-morning, noon, mid-afternoon, and near the end of the day. Each time, he looks for those who are still unemployed and says to them, \u201c<em>Go, then, to my vineyard<\/em>\u201d. The emphasis of the parable is not, first and foremost, on the wage, but on the call. Before any mention of the reward, God\u2019s invitation comes first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second lesson concerns the attitude with which we work. At the end of the day, the workers who had been working since the first hour began to grumble: \u201c<em>They've only worked for an hour, and you've treated them the same as us, even though we've been carrying the weight of the day and the heat<\/em>\u201d. What they had initially accepted willingly has now, in their eyes, become nothing more than <em>\u201cthe weight of the day and the sweltering heat\u201d<\/em>. They no longer see it as a privilege to work for the vineyard owner; instead, they compare themselves to others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joseph Ratzinger offers a beautiful reflection on this parable. We may end up resembling the workers hired at the first hour. When they discovered that those who had worked only a short time received the same wage, they ceased to appreciate the privilege of having worked the entire day. Instead of rejoicing in what they had received, they began to focus on what others were receiving. But were they really sure that spending the day doing nothing was better than spending it working? And why did their satisfaction with their wage depend on others receiving less?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The parable was not told merely to describe those laborers; it was told for us. Whenever we ask ourselves, \u201cWhy should I live the Christian life?\u201d we begin to think like the workers of the first hour. We imagine that \u201cspiritual unemployment\u201d\u2014a life without prayer, without faith, without sacrifice, and without commitment to God\u2014is easier, freer, and happier than life in the Lord\u2019s vineyard. But is that really the case? Is a life without God more fulfilling than a life lived in friendship with Him?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>En el Evangelio de hoy, Jes\u00fas presenta el Reino de Dios mediante la imagen del trabajo.
