Tra il 1885 e il 1887, quando inizi\u00f2 la nuova evangelizzazione dell'Africa nera, un centinaio di cristiani ugandesi, cattolici e anglicani, furono condannati a morte dal re Mwanga. Il re Mwanga aveva deciso di eliminare tutti i cristiani, anche perch\u00e9 si opponevano alla schiavit\u00f9 e alla vendita degli schiavi.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Il 3 giugno si celebr\u00f2 il gruppo di Carlo Lwanga e dei suoi dodici compagni, tutti di et\u00e0 compresa tra i quattordici e i trent'anni. Erano giovani e ferventi cattolici e si rifiutarono di cedere alla volont\u00e0 del monarca. Alcuni furono sgozzati e altri bruciati vivi. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.franciscanos.org\/agnofranciscano\/m06\/dia0603.html\">I loro nomi<\/a> Carlos Lwanga, Mbaya Tuzinde, Bruno Seronuma, Santiago Buzabaliao, Kizito, Ambrosio Kibuka, Mgagga, Gyavira, Aquiles Kiwanuka, Adolfo Ludigo Mkasa, Mukasa Kiriwanvu, Anatolio Kiriggwajjo e Lucas Banabakintu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Con i Padri Bianchi<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le ultime parole pronunciate da San Carlo Lwanga sono state: \"Ti prender\u00f2 per mano. Se dobbiamo morire per Ges\u00f9, moriremo insieme, tenendoci per mano\". Charles era stato attratto dai missionari in Africa, meglio conosciuti come i <a href=\"https:\/\/www.misionerosafrica.com\/quienes-somos\/nuestro-origenes\/\">Genitori bianchi<\/a>fondata dal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.misionerosafrica.com\/quienes-somos\/nuestro-origenes\/\">Il cardinale Lavigerie<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaticannews.va\/es\/santos\/06\/03\/ss--carlos-lwanga-y-companeros--martires-de-uganda.html\">Dopo essere diventato<\/a>\u00c8 stato un riferimento per gli altri e ha incoraggiato la fede dei convertiti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nel 1920, Benedetto XV proclam\u00f2 Carlo Lwanga e i suoi compagni martiri beati. San Paolo VI li canonizz\u00f2 nel 1964, durante il Concilio Vaticano II, e in Uganda (1969) consacr\u00f2 l'altare maggiore del Santuario di Namugongo.
