Su nombre aparece en los Hechos de los Ap\u00f3stoles (cap\u00edtulo 6) como el primero entre los siete elegidos para ayudar a los Ap\u00f3stoles en su misi\u00f3n, y es descrito como \u201chombre lleno de fe y del Esp\u00edritu Santo\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tras explicar su prisi\u00f3n y encarcelamiento, el cap\u00edtulo 7 de los <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conferenciaepiscopal.es\/biblia\/hechos-apostoles\/\">Hechos<\/a> recoge su discurso sobre la historia de Israel, y su <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omnesmag.com\/zh\/%e5%b1%95%e7%a4%ba\/papa-martires-san-esteban\/\">martirio<\/a>. Tras sus palabras finales \u2013\u201cVeo los cielos abiertos, y al Hijo del Hombre de pie a la diestra de Dios\u201d \u2013, le lapidaron. Muri\u00f3 con estas palabras: \u201cSe\u00f1or, no les tengas en cuenta este pecado\u201d. \u201cSaulo aprobaba su muerte\u201d, escribe san Lucas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El lugar del martirio de San Esteban en Jerusal\u00e9n se sit\u00faa por la tradici\u00f3n en las afueras de la Puerta de Damasco, hoy iglesia de Saint-\u00c9tienne. En el cristianismo, la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaticannews.va\/es\/santos\/12\/26\/s--esteban--primer-martir.html\">devoci\u00f3n<\/a> a San Esteban fue fuerte desde el principio. Su martirio ha sido recogido en el arte. Dante habla de \u00e9l en la \u2018Divina Comedia\u2019.
