Pope Leo XIV will visit the Republic of San Marino and Rimini on August 22, a one-day trip with a packed schedule.

Pope Leo XIV will make a pastoral visit to the Republic of San Marino and the Italian city of Rimini on Saturday, August 22, 2026. During the visit, the Pontiff will also participate in the «Meeting for Friendship Among Peoples.».

An Institutional and Religious Morning in San Marino

– Supernatural agenda The Holy Father’s visit will begin early, with takeoff scheduled for 8:00 a.m. At 9:00 a.m., the Pope will land at the Torraccia airfield, from where he will travel to Piazza della Libertà in San Marino. There, he will be received at 9:45 a.m. with military honors and the playing of the official national anthems, before entering the Public Palace alongside the Captains Regent.

Inside, after being introduced to the Secretaries of State, the Pope will hold a private meeting and sign the Book of Distinguished Guests in the Council of the Twelve Chamber. Subsequently, at 10:40, he will hold a meeting in the Grand and General Council Chamber. At 11:15, Pope Leo XIV will step out onto the central balcony of the Public Palace to greet and bless the faithful gathered in the square.

The visit to San Marino will continue at the Basilica at 11:45 a.m., where he will be received by the Bishop of San Marino-Montefeltro, Monsignor Domenico Beneventi, and the rector of the Basilica, Don Marco Mazzanti. At the basilica, the Pope will participate in the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and the veneration of the relics of San Marino alongside priests and diocesan representatives. After a final greeting to the faithful outside the Basilica and a farewell to the authorities, the Pontiff will depart from San Marino at 12:45.

Before arriving in Rimini, the itinerary includes a strictly private stop in Pennabilli, where the Pope will visit the community of Augustinian nuns at the Monastery of St. Anthony of Padua.

Afternoon at the «Meeting» and a Mass attended by a large crowd in Rimini

At 2:45 p.m., the Pope will arrive at the Rimini Fairgrounds heliport to join the «Meeting for Friendship Among Peoples.» His itinerary will begin at 3:00 p.m. with visits to the exhibitions dedicated to St. Augustine and Leon Harmel. Later, at 3:30 p.m., he will greet participants at the «Villaggio Ragazzi» and hold a large gathering in the Main Auditorium at 4:00 p.m.

The final leg of the trip will take place in downtown Rimini. At 5:30 p.m., the Holy Father will go to the Cathedral for a heartfelt meeting with the sick, people with disabilities, and people living in poverty who are assisted by Caritas.

The grand finale of the pastoral visit will take place at the Port of Rimini, where at 6:30 p.m. he will preside over a solemn Eucharistic celebration. At the conclusion of the Mass, at 8:00 p.m., Pope Leo XIV will bid farewell to the authorities and depart for the Vatican, where he is scheduled to land at 9:00 p.m.
